Luke is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Excursions By Rail, bringing over 12 years of hands-on experience and leadership in the rail industry. He began his career as a Customer Service Assistant in a busy national and international rail ticket office, gaining a deep understanding of the passenger experience from the very start.

His drive to connect communities and support regional growth led him to become Business Development Director, and later a Director at Weardale Railway, where he helped revitalise local heritage rail services.

Alongside his rail career, Luke has extensive experience in politics and public service, having served as a councillor and worked in senior roles supporting government ministers. His work focused on regional development, business growth, and community investment — experience that has shaped his commitment to using rail as a force for local regeneration and economic opportunity.

Away from the office, Luke is passionate about exploring the UK’s hidden gems by train, chatting with passengers onboard, and supporting local businesses in every community he visits. His personable approach and love for storytelling are at the heart of every journey Excursions By Rail creates, making each trip feel special and memorable.
